Popular stores in York, Beverley and Helmsley now benefiting from the new retail till system

Long-established independent retailer Browns of York has selected a new an integrated electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) and back-office service.

The popular stores in York, Beverley and Helmsley now use Unipower Retail from Unipower Solutions, which has enhanced customer service and helped boost profitability.

Browns’ previous EPoS and back-office system had evolved over time and was built around spreadsheets, manual data input and manual reconciliation, proving very time consuming and inflexible.

The Unipower Retail solution provides Browns with a more flexible IT platform that integrates the café, store point-of-sale (PoS) terminals, e-commerce and enterprise resource planning (ERP) operational management systems, across multiple sites from a centralised point.

Speeding process, freeing time

In addition, Unipower Retail will support Browns’ business growth and diversity, as well as bringing a host of reporting and operational efficiencies, including automatic discount and promotion handling at the PoS, which has reduced the daily time spent on cash counting and reconciliations by 30%.

It is also freeing time to enable Browns to undertake the task of moving from financial stock based accounting to item stock based accounting. General analysis and collation of reports for third parties such as concessions has been dramatically simplified, and end-of-year reporting is now quicker and more efficient

Shane Longhorne, finance director at Browns, commented: “We selected a partner who worked closely with us to enable our store staff to be more efficient, have greater control, and ultimately provide consumers with an improved level of service. This has, in turn, improved footfall and profitability.”
