Leading centre for complementary medicine opts for PoS specialist, DigiPoS, to support store updates

Nutri Centres, a European retailer of complementary medicine, has signed a deal with point-of-sale (PoS) specialist, DigiPoS Store Solutions, to roll out its Quantum Blade solution across the retailer’s 13 UK stores in March and April 2011.

DigiPoS’ Quantum Blade is the newest addition to the solution provider’s Retail Blade PoS systems. Utilising Intel Atom processor technology, the provider claims it offers at least a 60% reduction in power consumption, when compared to other PoS systems or desktop PCs.

In its planned store updating programme, Nutri Centres is also upgrading its till units. Hong Trinh, IT manager at Nutri Centres, said: “Hardware has a shelf life of two to three years, and we were keen to replace the existing infrastructure. We were impressed with the Quantum Blade technology presented by DigiPoS, and there were a couple of key drivers in our decision to go with the solutions provider.

Efficiency and lifecycle make difference

“The Quantum Blade system is a hot-swappable unit, with a removable hard drive and motherboard,” he added. “This means each time we choose to replace a unit, we don’t need to dismantle all of the peripherals. We can therefore support the stores at IT level without having to be on site; if the store needs a spare unit, we can just send one.”

Trinh continued: “The fact that the Quantum Blade uses less power than comparable units also means that in the medium to long-term this will reduce the overall running cost of the tills. As a business, we are concerned about the environment, and we aim to do what we can to reduce our emissions.”

In conjunction with the Quantum Blade installation, Nutri Centres has also opted to use the DigiPoS MultiPlex touchscreen.
