New development aims to revolutionise instore point of sale with augmented reality app

Zappar has launched a new point-of-sale (PoS) development to bring videogame characters and other 3D objects to life, by looking at the products promotional materials through an iPhone or Android device. The Zappar app is free to download from iTunes or Android Market Place.

Zappar PoS was launched exclusively at the gaming event, GAMESCOM Expo, which took place from 17 to 21 August 2011 in Cologne, Germany, promoting the videogame All Zombies Must Die! in partnership with games developer and distributor, doublesix.

Pioneering future of instore retail and exhibitions

Pioneering the future of instore retail and exhibitions, Zappar said it is bridging the gap between the physical and the digital and taking the lead by introducing a whole new way of thinking about instore PoS, marketing signage and exhibition promotions by turning them into entertainment channels in their own right.

“This will be a major shift in how people look at retail PoS, creating a new entertainment channel from any image we place in the real world,” said Caspar Thykier, managing director for Zappar. “We set out to produce advertising augmented reality that is first and foremost, great fun to use.

“We are thrilled to be working with doublesix and the All Zombie Must Die! game [team], launching the Zappar brand into new realms of possibility. By expanding the Zappar technologies into the instore and exhibition space, and integrating augmented reality into PoS and promotions, it demonstrates the limitless opportunities for the brand.”
