Specialist logistics academic institute is set to establish a new research club aimed at improving supply chain security and resilience
The Logistics Institute at Hull University Business School has issued businesses with an invitation to attend the exclusive launch of a new club designed to help improve the security and resilience of their supply chains.
The new group, ‘Supply Chain Risk and Resilience Club,’ will help companies meet the challenges of managing and securing their sourcing and distribution processes by providing advice, the latest research findings and opportunities to attend unique workshops.
Leading academics from the logistics field and industry experts from major global companies – including Unipart Logistics, PwC and Estee Lauder – will share their experiences of and best practice for managing risk via a series of keynote addresses at the club’s launch. Held on 1 May at the Institute of Directors in London, 9.45am to 4pm, the launch event concludes with a roundtable discussion to create a future agenda for enhancing the security of this critical area of commerce.
Coping with supply chain disruption
Dr Omera Khan, director of the Logistics Institute at Hull University Business School and chair of the Supply Chain Risk and Resilience Club, stated: “The club’s launch provides an exceptional opportunity to gain the very latest insights from a great range of prominent logistics professionals.”
She continued: “Supply chain risk concerns all commercial organisations, particularly where chains extend across national boundaries. Macro-economic turbulence, natural disasters and geopolitical uncertainties have dramatically changed the risk profile of most supply chains and businesses must now contend with the potential for severe disruptions to their sourcing and distribution arrangements. Our new risk and resilience club will equip companies with the necessary tools to enhance the security of their supply chains.”
The research club will bring together managers, industry specialists and academic experts to explore new ideas and share international best practice. Membership provides access to new ideas on supply chain resilience from around the world, the opportunity to establish research priorities and to gain first sight of research findings on a range of critical supply chain risk topics. Members will also benefit from help in understanding the risk profile of their individual organisation’s supply chains and advice on improving supply security procedures in this field.
