Annual supply chain retail conference and exhibition is this year sponsored by Commerce Connections, Data Interchange, Lansa, Wesupply and Zebra
Head of research at Planet Retail, Stephen Spingham, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the GS1 UK Annual Retail Conference and Exhibition.
Under the banner of this year’s theme, Driving business growth to meet the needs of tomorrow’s consumer, Spingham and other leading industry speakers will debate key issues, emerging trends and future initiatives in the retail sector at the event, which will take place on 2 May 2013 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
Chaired by James Spittle, chairman of GS1 UK, it will provide an opportunity for delegates to discuss how industry-wide supply chain standards can enable the efficient movement of goods and sharing of information for the benefit of the retail sector and consumers.
Efficient operations and communications
Delegates will also hear about the GS1 UK Advanced Shipment Notification (ASN) working group, attended by industry supply chain heads, which has developed the tools required to drive adoption and deployment of a harmonised industry-wide ASN solution. This will be an opportunity to learn about the direct benefits of this initiative, understand how businesses can be involved and the immediate next steps they should consider in order to achieve ASN adoption.
Gary Lynch, GS1 UK chief executive, commented: “GS1 standards already save the retail grocery industry £650 million annually through the adoption of EDI [electronic data interchange] for electronic ordering and invoicing.
"The GS1 UK annual conference allows industry leaders to learn how our standards can help drive business growth even further by reducing supply chain costs and improving product traceability and labelling to meet the increasing demands of consumers.”
GS1 UK will also be running a number of breakout sessions and workshops at the conference. These are intended to give delegates the opportunity to meet its team of technical and business consultants and accredited GS1 UK partners, and discuss how the might implement supply chain information solutions within their own organisations, as well as the range of support available from GS1 UK.
