Liverpool FC launches new e-commerce website

By Retail Technology | Tuesday June 10 2014

Reds debut mobile friendly e-commerce platform with online retail store for tens of thousands of daily visitors

With mobile and tablet usage accounting for more than 40% of traffic on its site, Liverpool FC has redesigned its site as an e-commerce platform that is compatible with mobile devices and tablets.

Created by digital communications agency Rippleffect, the new Liverpool FC e-commerce platform features a streamlined checkout process that allows fans to be automatically signed-in when arriving via the main club website.

It also includes a new guest checkout option and a free click-and-collect service to all six of the club’s UK retail stores from June 2014.

“On average, tens of thousands of fans access the LFC online store every day,” commented Billy Hogan, chief commercial officer at Liverpool FC. “As a result, it was important for the club to modernise the user shopping experience, helping fans find what they are looking for with ease as well as saving them some money with the new click-and-collect service.”

Fan-made digital mosaic

Ahead of the launch, Liverpool fans were asked to participate in a special competition to become part of the digital mosaic which adorns the homepage of the new site.

Fans were asked to submit a picture of themselves sporting an official item of LFC clothing or kit via Instagram or Twitter and include the hashtag #IamLFC for the chance to feature.

Liverpool FC said hundreds and thousands of entries were published on both social media platforms and that of those, 166 were selected to produce an image of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
