NatWest and Carphone Warehouse trial cardless online payments

By Retail Technology | Monday June 11 2018

In the latest effort to make paying for goods online quicker and easier, NatWest is trialling cardless payments for online shopping

The move to test alternative payment by bank transfer with ‘Open Bank’ technology is being done in partnership with mobile phone chain Carphone Warehouse, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Consumers choosing the new payment option will be redirected to the NatWest website to validate payments by using fingerprint authorisation, if set up, or by inputting their online banking login details.

Secure token

A “secure token” passing between the bank and retailer ensures the transaction is secure and it also cuts out NatWest’s “3D secure” verification step to further speed up payments.

Other banks are expected to follow suit by offering the new payment option.
