Amazon’s Prime Air gets milestone approval

Amazon’s planned aerial drone delivery service Prime Air has been approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration as an official “air carrier”

This allows the company to begin drone delivery within a test range, Amazon has confirmed.

The company said it estimated the test would initially involve 10 houses, according to the exemption but did not provide details on where these homes would be located.

Amazon has also told the FAA it would just carry 5-pound payloads.

Prime Air VP David Carbon said in a statement: “We will continue to develop and refine our technology to fully integrate delivery drones into the airspace, and work closely with the FAA and other regulators around the world to realise our vision of 30 minute delivery.”
