Rewe Group goes checkout free

By Retail Technology | Thursday October 28 2021 | UPDATED 28.10.21

German grocery chain Rewe Group is delivering a checkout free ‘pick and go’ shopping experience in Cologne

Rewe is implementing a hybrid checkout-free experience under real conditions with Trigo.

Using AI-powered computer vision and off-the-shelf hardware, Trigo will transform the chain into a fully autonomous and digital store.

The company applies its proprietary algorithms to ceiling-mounted cameras which automatically learn and upload data on shoppers' movements and product choices, enabling customers to simply walk into a store, pick up their desired items, and walk out without stopping at the checkout. Payments and receipts are settled digitally.

Regular checkout will still be available for shoppers who prefer traditional checkout.
