Asahi recovers from cyber attack

By Retail Technology | Thursday October 9 2025 | UPDATED 08.10.25

Asahi, Japan’s largest brewer, has partially restarted production at all six of its breweries after a cyber-attack forced them to close

The hack disrupted ordering and delivery systems as Asahi had to halt operations because it couldn’t process orders or shipments.

Spencer Starkey, EVP at network security provider SonicWall EMEA, said: “The recent retail attacks align with trends in Sonicwall's 2025 Threat Report, which shows a sharp rise in sophisticated attacks. Threat actors are now exploiting vulnerabilities within 48 hours of disclosure - far faster than most organisations can patch - highlighting a growing gap between threat velocity and enterprise readiness. Retail is one of the key targets for hacker groups and bad actors.”
