Online retail specialist achieves crucial payments industry compliance, offers additional services for assurance

The shopping cart and e-commerce systems of Chapter Eight were recently Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 certified.

As a UK digital payment provider, the accreditation means all of Chapter Eight's e-commerce clients, including the likes of Lyle & Scott, Share Jewellers and Sock Shop, now have the additional peace of mind of having this top level of compliance apply to their website as standard.

The company added that it was also offering each client a new monthly service that will provide their website with a pop-up certificate of compliance backed by the PCI Security Standards Council for a charge of £50 per month per website, as well as notifying their bank of their new status.

Essential string to its bow

With over 800 e-commerce websites and electronic payment solutions under its management, Chapter Eight places significant importance on maintaining a robust and secure system.

Mario Thomas, managing director commented: “We want to take the hassle away from our clients by offering this new service. While bringing peace of mind to their customers, the real benefit with this service is clients will not need to undertake any form of PCI DSS compliance testing of their websites themselves, so avoiding what is an expensive and time consuming activity. They also save the cost of the charges demanded by the banks for non-compliance or 'managing' compliance on their behalf.

“Having processed 1.1 million transactions to date, it's important for us to maintain a secure environment and world-class security for our clients. Having that environment independently audited and confirmed as being compliant to the highest levels achievable is a testimony to the quality of our systems, procedures and staff.”

Proprietary tech pays off

Chapter Eight guarantees that all its customer data is as safe as possible when they purchase products online through the C8 Framework – the company's bespoke e-commerce system.

The company’s cash control and online collections product, Open Payment System (OPS), is also now PCI DSS Level 1 compliant.

Thomas added: “Online security has always been integral to our business which is why payments by credit, debit and corporate purchasing cards are processed using the latest SSL 3 encryption technology, as well as offering 3D Secure as standard. Also included are advanced fraud detection tools, including Triplic8TM – our three-pronged fraud detection and mitigation tools.”
