UK online retailers set to ship more abroad

Recent research indicates that more foreign consumers are buying from UK online retailers
The number of overseas deliveries despatched from the UK could be set to double by 2017, according to recent research by the IMRG MetaPack UK Delivery Index.
The numbers indicated that an expected 161 million orders posted cross-border this year may rise to 384 million in 2017 if current trends continue, according to the The total number of orders despatched by retailers in the UK is expected to top 1 billion next year and to reach 1.3 billion in 2017.
Andrew Starkey, head of e-Logistics at IMRG said: “It is a testament to UK retailers that so many orders are coming from overseas and we think these numbers will continue to rise. Within the UK, the growth in orders is underpinned by the quality of delivery provided by our
carriers. We saw 95% of deliveries made (or attempted) on time last month.”
The IMRG MetaPack UK Delivery Index was set-up to enable the e-retail industry to track a wide range of key benchmark metrics to enable organisations to benchmark performance, track trends and inform strategic decisions.
The information presented is aggregated from a consistent, anonymous sample of MetaPack's dataset. It covers over 220 retailers and an average of over 4.5 million orders in any one month.
